From Quiet Studios to Wedding Days
I never thought I would be a wedding photographer.
My professional photography journey started in product lifestyle photography, probably the furthest thing from weddings you can imagine. Quiet subjects. Slow work. Just me, fully in control, styling everything until the image felt almost perfect.
For my personal work I've always loved photographing people, places and stories, but even then I took it very slow. Maybe because I come from an analog photo background. I would observe, wait for that one moment, that special light and spend time to really compose my shot. Zoom in and find the smallest details that interest me that you normally would pass by so easily.
I feel wedding photography is the opposite of that. Hectic, emotional, full of people and important moments that pass in seconds. A nervous couple, long days, no retakes. It never felt like my world.
Until someone asked me to shoot their wedding, and you know what? I loved it.
It wasn't so far from my personal work as I thought. I was still observing, finding moments, capturing emotions and telling stories, and I think that is exactly why I loved it so much. That documentary, editorial eye I had developed translated surprisingly well to weddings. I found those special moments among the chaos. And as a bonus, I could make people feel comfortable, giving them a good time, and laugh with them. Making the couple feel at ease and portraying their love, what an honor.
I felt so fulfilled. And I took so much from that day into my other work. I became a better photographer because of it, because I try to recreate those same emotions in everything I shoot now. I think we often put ourselves in boxes without realizing it. Product, or travel photographer. Not a wedding photographer. But trying something new showed me that the skills I had built quietly, slowly, over the years traveled with me.
I'm still at the beginning of this adventure as a destination wedding photographer, but I would be so happy to be part of many more weddings. So if you are interested in having me as your wedding photographer, I would be honored to hear from you.
Have a lovely day,
Len
